Senior Big Data Engineer

Railinc Corporation (Cary, NC) is hiring a Senior Big Data Engineer to perform the following job duties:

• Develop, maintain, and support new and existing software solutions for large-scale, data-driven systems while applying best practices of software development.
• Deliver high-quality software solutions across all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
• Design, build, and maintain data processing workflows, including ETL and CDC processes, to support the integration and processing of data from multiple systems and sources.
• Write, modify, and maintain application code using programming languages such as Python, Scala, and Java.
• Analyze business and user requirements and translate them into technical specifications and software solutions.
• Optimize software applications and workflows to improve performance, reliability, and end-user experience.
• Work with structured and unstructured data within enterprise software applications and ensure data quality, integrity, and accuracy.
• Test and debug software applications to ensure proper functionality and performance.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation related to software systems, data workflows, and application processes.

Position requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related field, or foreign equivalent.
• Seven (7) years of progressive experience in data engineering or big data development, involving the design, development, and support of large-scale data platforms and data pipelines.
• 5 years of Big Data development and related technologies
• 3 years of experience in shell scripting and Python
• 2 years of experience in Java
• 2 years of experience with MPP databases such as Snowflake
• 2 years of experience with relational databases and ability to adapt to new database technologies
• 2 years of experience with ETL and CDC tools
• 2 years of experience with message queue (MQ) technologies development
• 2 years of experience in web service development
• 2 years of experience with Agile software development methodology
• 2 years of experience with cloud storage, compute, and networking solutions on AWS, Azure, or GCP
• 2 years of experience with middle-tier and backend technologies
• 2 years of experience with deployment processes, deployment environments, and production application troubleshooting techniques
